SwimSafe is being delivered by North Berwick Surf Life Saving Club in collaboration with North Berwick RNLI and East Lothian Council.
We have limited availability for trial sessions in August/September 2026 ahead of a planned expansion in 2027.

Required kit:
-Towel
-Swimming costume
-Warm clothes for afterwards
-Swimming goggles (personal preference)
-Water shoes (personal preference)
Provided kit:
-Wetsuit †
-Swimming cap
-SwimSafe rash vest
† We have a number of wetsuits which can be used on the day. Where possible we recommend participants wear their own (full length) wetsuit and request they arrive changed as this speeds registration due to the limited changing facilities on site.
Registration:
Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your session start time to allow for registration and to get kitted up.
The session:
Participants will learn how to keep themselves safe on the beach and in the water through a variety of games, structured around the RNLI’s 4 core messages:
1. Stop and Think
2. Stay Together
3. Float
4. Call 999 or 112
The sessions will last around 45 minutes, participants can expect to be in the water for around 20 minutes of the session.
We request that a responsible adult remains on site during the session.
Travel to the site:
Foot or Bike: The green can be accessed via Rotary way of Beach Road. There is no formal secure storage for bikes but there are many places that they can be chained.
Bus: Beach Road Stop ID: 58232643 via East Coast Buses or Prentice of Haddington
Train: Scotrail, trains arrive approximately quarter to and quarter past the hour. Follow signs to the 'town centre' until you get onto Westgate, then take the first left onto Westend Place.
Car: Parking charges are in force during the 10am until 4pm Monday to Saturday, and from 1pm until 4pm on Sundays, March to October. Details: eastlothian.gov.uk/NB-parking Please allow plenty of time as parking space can be limited near the site.
Misc
Public / Accessible Toilets are available a short walk away on Quality Street or at the harbour.
Refreshments are available from nearby cafés along the High Street, a drinking water station is located at the east end of the High Street.
