One of our own Swim Safe volunteers Konrad Sroda has won the Swim England Young Volunteer of the year award for the West Midlands region. Konrad worked with Swim Safe at our site in Birmingham for the full week earlier in the summer. Along with assisting the teachers in the water, he also helped with registration of the schools at site and kitting out our participants. After enjoying his week in Birmingham, Konrad also volunteered his time at two of our other sites in Plas Menai and Windermere.
Alongside his work on Swim Safe, Konrad also volunteers at many Swim England events around the country and is currently doing his timekeeper qualification to help out even more. Konrad has been teaching a disability swimming group that he was instrumental in setting up, he has been working on a one-to-one basis with a few children and recently took a group down to swim in their first gala in Bristol where they won 14 medals between them. He has been volunteering with learn to swim for the past year, and teaches two days a week at his local pool.
Swim Safe Area Coordinator for Birmingham, Charlotte Francis, added “Swim Safe would not have been such a success in Birmingham without the vital work from Konrad, and we are very grateful he wants to continue his work with the programme. We were also happy to see him collecting his award in his Swim Safe kit!”
